What is The Modern Republic?
The Modern Republic is a dialogue concerning the state of modern American education, touching on the culture that poisons the souls and minds of all and the cures that heal them. Rooted in classical Western thought, this publication seeks to recover the moral and civic foundations that make a free people strong. It explores ideas through the lens of local commerce, the traditional family, civic duty, and a renewed understanding of patriotism, virtue, and the proper roles of government and public officials, with a primary goal of properly defining political liberty and sovereignty through education.
The Modern Republic’s focus is on the education that makes a nation great. Across time and space that education has been a classical one, based on Western ideals. The basis for democracy, republican government, virtuous schooling, and a free self-governing people was born in ancient Greece, spent its adolescence in Rome, acquired its bachelors in Western Europe, and after graduation made its way across the Atlantic and became the United States of America.
To uphold any idea of an American tradition, there is required a classical education. America is the culmination of Western tradition; politically, civically, religiously, and culturally. To know where we are going, we must know where we came from.
